" Superb restaurant! The flavors in every dish are incredible. I ordered the chilaquiles rojos, and they were packed with flavor! The staff was delightful and very engaging. They genuinely want you to enjoy your meal. The ambiance is something special, as well – artistic and authentic. Didn’t try dessert this time, but I’ve heard good things about the dulce de leche options. I’ll be back soon for another great meal! " (*Curated Review*)
" I must admit that I had high hopes for Istmo after hearing so much buzz, but unfortunately, my experience didn’t quite meet those expectations. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, and the staff was exceptionally friendly, but the food left me wanting more. I tried the chilaquiles, and while they were presented beautifully, they lacked the depth of flavor I imagined they would have, especially for a Oaxacan-themed restaurant. My partner ordered the enchiladas, which, while tasty, were also a bit underwhelming when compared to authentic meals I've had. The portion sizes were decent but could be improved, especially given the price point. Overall, the experience was fine, but I hope they can refine their dishes to showcase more of the authentic flavors of Oaxaca. " (*Curated Review*)
" I had high expectations for Istmo and I must say, it exceeded them. From the moment I entered until the last bite of my dessert, every aspect was simply delightful. I ordered the desyuno ismeño, which was a unique twist on traditional flavors. The chorizo was perfectly spiced and the eggs were cooked to perfection. I also loved how fresh and organic the ingredients tasted. The service was top-notch – attentive but never intrusive. If I were to nitpick, I would say there could be a little more variety in portion sizes. However, that’s a small detail compared to my overall experience. I highly recommend giving Istmo a try! " My family and I had a great experience at Istmo! We went for brunch yesterday, and we were very happy with the overall experience. The ambiance is lovely and really brings the charm of Oaxacan culture to Chicago. I decided to try the entomatadas, while my family opted for various chilaquiles. Every dish was beautifully plated. The flavors were fresh, but I wish the spices were a little bolder given the reputation this restaurant has. Still, it was all quite enjoyable. The service was warm and welcoming, making us feel appreciated as diners. I would happily return again to explore more of the menu! " (*Curated Review*)
" Our group of friends celebrated a birthday at Istmo, and it couldn't have been better! The restaurant offered us excellent service, making the birthday girl feel special. We started with the nacho platter, delicious and abundant! For the main course, I went with the chicken enchiladas topped with their homemade mole, which was heavenly. And we finished the evening with the nicoatole. The combinations were perfect, and it was a joy to watch the chef interact with customers. It's such a positive environment! We had a wonderful night and I look forward to our next visit! " (*Curated Review*)
" Just had lunch at Istmo, and I really appreciated the variety on the menu! I ended up choosing the horchata latte and garnachas as they sounded intriguing. The latte was rich and slightly sweet, which I loved. The garnachas were decent; however, I found the seasoning to be a bit light for my taste. The atmosphere was lovely, and I admire the artistry in the decor. Overall, it was nice, but I hope my next visit offers a more flavorful experience with other dishes. " (*Curated Review*)
" This morning's brunch at Istmo was such a treat! Had their famous cafe de olla which instantly reminded me of my visits to Oaxaca. Pairing it with the enchiladas was a perfect choice! Each dish was full of fresh flavors, and the atmosphere was serene and inviting. I also noticed how friendly the staff were, adding to the lovely experience. I can’t wait to come back and try other menu offerings! " (*Curated Review*)
