" I've been going to El Metate for over a decade now, and while the food was once exceptional, my last few visits have been a mix of highs and lows. The fish taco I had last week was quite bland compared to what I remember. They used to serve excellent fish, but it seems the quality may have dipped. However, their chips and salsa are still the best around, and the ambiance is as lively as ever. " I've had both hits and misses at El Metate. The ambience is definitely welcoming and laid back, with walls filled with colorful murals. I tried their tacos al pastor, which unfortunately fell flat in terms of flavor. However, their house-made guacamole was fantastic and very fresh. The waitstaff was also attentive and friendly. If they could step up the seasoning in their tacos, it would be perfect. That being said, I may give them another chance in the future since they do have some standout vegetarian options. Recently, I had their mole burrito and it was just as good as I remembered. The mole sauce had a rich flavor that combined beautifully with the chicken.
